We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. For anything to do with your data, contact us at nick@wax.earth.
We only collect data for specific purposes. Here's the whole picture:
| What | Why | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Name and email address | To create your account, contact you about the app, and manage beta participation | Contract |
| Records you scan, and photos taken while scanning | To identify the record and show you where to find it | Contract |
| Your collection, wantlist and scan history | To save your library so it's there when you come back | Contract |
| Approximate or precise location | To show you record shops near you | Consent |
| City and country | To understand where our community is, and which shops to add next | Legitimate interest |
| Scans you choose to share publicly, and who you follow | To run the community feed | Contract |
| Apple Music or Spotify listening data, if you connect them | To recommend vinyl based on what you already listen to | Consent |
| Feedback you send us, including voice notes | To fix what's broken and improve the app | Legitimate interest |
| Crash reports and basic usage data | To find and fix bugs | Legitimate interest |
You can refuse or withdraw location access and music-service access at any time in your device settings, and the rest of the app will keep working. Some features simply won't.
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract, and only on our instructions:
We may also disclose data if we're legally required to. We'll tell you if that happens, unless we're legally prevented from doing so.
Some of our providers are based outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the EEA, it is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.
Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:
To exercise any of these, email nick@wax.earth. We'll respond within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl), or to the authority in your own country.
wax. isn't intended for children under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email us and we'll delete it.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and access controls on our internal systems. No system is perfect, and we won't pretend otherwise. If a breach affects you, we'll tell you and the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens as the law requires.
If you're taking part in the wax. private beta, some extra things apply. Apple collects crash logs and any feedback you submit through TestFlight, under Apple's own privacy policy. Your participation is also governed by the beta tester agreement you signed. Where that agreement and this policy overlap, this policy governs how we handle your personal data.
If we change this policy meaningfully, we'll tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. The date at the top always tells you when it was last updated.
