we are saving music.

physically · digitally · culturally

Not the idea of music. The actual thing. The grooves, the sleeve, the shop, the room it gets played in, not at the expense of the sacrificing the artist.
streaming changed our relationship with music. wax. is how we restore it again.

three pillars.

community  ·  conscious consumption  ·  preservation
Community
A culture is not built. It is gathered. People show up bringing the records they grew up with and the food they grew up eating, and a room becomes a culture for the night.
Conscious consumption
Living as a listener is a practice. The analog argument is not really about format, it is about attention. A record is a song you do, not a song that happens to you.
Preservation
Kintsugi. The crackle is not damage, it is the gold seam. The skip is a record of love. We are saving music the way a librarian saves a book. Quietly. On purpose.
“When i is replaced by we, even illness becomes wellness.”
Malcolm X
The streaming era is the architecture of I. wax. is the architecture of we.

have we lost touch with music?

touch, as in contact. touch, as in being moved. touch, as in the feeling that a song arrived at the right moment and changed the temperature of your inner life.

we are saving music by putting it back in your hands. not the idea of music, the actual thing: the grooves, the sleeve, the shop, the room it gets played in, and the artist on the other end of it who needs to eat.
more access. less contact.   more sound. less signal.   more convenience. less ceremony.

we write it down, too.

press on wax is where the long version goes. the records, the shops, the people, and the arguments we keep having about all three. free, and it lands when there is something worth saying.
join the movement.
