have we lost touch with music?

touch, as in contact. touch, as in being moved. touch, as in the feeling that a song arrived at the right moment and changed the temperature of your inner life.
more access. less contact.
more sound. less signal.
more convenience. less ceremony.

what we are doing.

we are saving music. not the idea of music. the actual thing. streaming gave us the world and lost the song. wax. is how we find it again.
the streaming era is the architecture of i. wax. is the architecture of we.
[01] mission
saving music by putting it back in your hands. not the idea of music, the actual thing: the grooves, the sleeve, the shop, the room it gets played in, and the artist on the other end of it who needs to eat.
[02] community
a culture is not built. it is gathered. the room comes first and the record comes second, and the people who show up decide what it sounds like.
[03] conscious consumption
living as a listener is a practice. a record is a song you do, not a song that happens to you. the analogue argument is about attention, not format.
[04] preservation
kintsugi. the crackle is not damage, it is the gold seam. the skip is a record of love. we keep the object and we keep the story that came attached to it.
[05] the room is everywhere
local first, globally networked. every node begins with the corner shops that already make a city sound like itself, because lose the corner shop and the city loses its accent. we do not arrive with the culture. we arrive for it.
[06] what we believe
art is a powerful commodity. the artist is not. the streaming royalty is the penny, the song is the portrait, and any system that treats them as the same has misunderstood the whole arrangement. the artist gets paid.

who we are

two people who kept buying records.

nicholas egunjobifounder

started wax. because the music he loved most was the music he owned. built the app, carries the crates, and still does the washing up at the end of the night.

candice danielco-founder  ·  selector, as rani hayat

runs the room and plays it. the half of wax. that makes a sunday feel like somebody's front room rather than a venue.

we are a vereniging, a dutch association. not a label, not an agency, not a startup looking for an exit.

rooms, kitchens, crews and crates

who lets us in.

we do not own a venue and we do not own a shop. every room we have filled belonged to somebody else who said yes, and every crate came from somebody who knows their stock better than we ever will.
Join the movement.

Sign up as a listener, a collector, a shop or a partner. We will tell you when the app opens and when the room is near you.
We choose the future. Listen on wax.
